The Liberal Arts Society is the accredited student association of the undergraduate students of the Liberal Arts College at Concordia University, Concordia. As such, its supreme authority resides in the decision-making of its membership, expressed through the General Assembly and the use of referenda.
The executive body of the Association is tasked to implement these decisions, and to take care of the day-to-day operations of the Association. The executive is elected once a year in March, at the occasion of the General Election. The positions are as follow:
The President: The President shall be a signing authority and will be the main representative of the Association to its Membership, and to the Liberal Arts College faculty and administration. S/He shall also be the officer responsible for the holding and booking of space and resources for events and shall chair LAS meetings. The President may, appoint members to represent the Association
The Vice-President of Administration and Internal Affairs: The VP of Administration and Internal Affairs shall be responsible for keeping all the records of the LAS in order, including but not limited to, the minutes of the meetings of the LAS. The VP Administration shall also act as the secondary liaison between the Association and the Department and also be responsible for coordinating all academic services and events provided for the Members. If necessary, the VP of Administration shall offer their help to the LACSAC (Liberal Arts College Student Academic Conference). The VP Administration shall be responsible for organizing the first meetings of the LACTS in the fall semester.
The Vice-President of External Affairs: The VP of External Affairs shall be the primary liaison between the Association and ASFA and other bodies outside of the University. The VP External shall also be in charge of the formation of a policy committee to review and update the Association’s by-laws, if necessary.
The Vice-President of Finance: The VP Finance shall be a signing authority and will hold responsibility over the financial matters of the Association. The VP Finance shall be responsible for preparing the budget in collaboration with the President and the VP Administration.
The Vice-President of Communications: The VP Communications shall be responsible for the distribution of information to the Membership. This includes advertisements for social and academic events, along with distributing minutes, committee reports, and any other information relevant to LAS activities.
The Vice-President of Social Affairs: The VP Social shall be responsible for the managing and coordinating of social events organized for the Members. The VP Social shall also be responsible for the booking, planning, and preparation of materials for social and academic events and services provided to
the Members. They shall also be in charge of the formation of a social committee to help with planning for events.
Referenda can be call at the occasion of the General Election or the By-Election.
